Busting therapy myths

Therapy is often misunderstood.

I am writing this post today for anyone who has ever considered therapy. If you have never gone, you may have this preconceived idea of what it is like. Many think they are going to be laying on a couch and answering “how did that make you feel?’ questions.

To be truthful, I have asked “how did that make you feel?” questions. But therapy is so much more than that. Therapy helps individual set goals for their lives. Yes, we do look into the past, but my sessions really focus on the future. YOU pick your goals, your ideal life, and we work to make steps towards those goals.

Are you kind, forgiving, and encouraging? Or are you harsh and punitive?

I have found that the pattern with most of us is to be more of the second; to be negative and judgmental towards ourselves.

“Watch your thoughts for they become words. Watch your words for they become actions. Watch your actions for they become…habits. Watch your habits, for they become your character. And watch your character, for it becomes your destiny! What we think we become.” – Margaret Thatcher

Hello all! As the new school year is about to begin, back to school stress is on the brain for many students and parents.

Although people may want to tell you otherwise, being in school is hard. Not only are there educational obligations (finishing your homework, passing your tests, etc.) but there are social stresses too (making friends, getting invited to parties, etc.) and the big one that affects students today like it never did before, social media.

Here are some tips for back to school to make the stress a little more manageable:
